Who is your " I am" that your voice should be heard?
by The Rebel ini was recently thinking before i became " mike" i was an innocent baby, then as the days passed slowly by, i developed a sence of " iam".
as the days moved forward my body, slowly developed a a "sex organ" whilst my mind took on a sence of " emotional" and " intellectual" i am" .
this allowed me to become my current " i am?.

Beyond the Kingdom Hall.
by The Rebel inthe religoios lessons themselfs are not missed, they were actually quite dull, and i realize i learnt nothing of value from them.
instead a quite evening at home playing with my boy is more endearing.. yes my life has moved on, i occassionaly see members of my former congregation in shopping centers, or they are putting the kids in to the back of the car and inside i believe most of them have bottled it, they prefer the comfort to the " truth" who am i to expose the can of worms.. many of course can blame parents or grandparents for having grown up as outcasts in school and i hope if they do leave like me they hold no resentment.
indoctrination is a terrible thing, and even false prophecy, royal commissions, and proof that many of the elders in the congregation are complete and utter shits won't change them.

Well I stared the O.P, so I should comment on the thread. As the image seems to have generated more interest than my words, I would like to say what that image represents to me:-
All right to the individual, freedom and justice to the special one, quality not quantity. And yes the individual not only has the right to a life outside the watchtower ,the individual has the right to a better life. The world outside my be lonely but it's the individuals new world which has taken courage and intelligence to enter. Most important of all laughter can and should be found as the days roll on.

I really do appreciate all of the replies. Thank you.
Millie210, if I may make an assumption, I think the little intimate secrets members share on the forum are proof that many of us are developing as individuals very nicely, in our journey outside of Watchtower indoctrination.

God's Word and Modern Man
by TheLiberator ini have drawn the conclusion that when god speaks, he is using the language and the concepts of the time.
he is not revealing a new scientific understanding when he speaks.
that would be distracting from the point being made.

In my opinion God has had great difficult in expressing even the simplest sentences. This is only my opinion, but it is why I think it absurd we need an entire bible to share what should be a common message of love.
Is the bible a common message of love?
In my opinion if the bible is the words of God it's a disgrace to a higher intelligence, in fact much of it I find dark and brutal. In fact I once did try to base my life on the bible or the watchtower interpretation of it, I was a brutal homosexual hating shit. I am glad i have have kissed Gods word in the bible goodnight.

JWs in denial, so sad
by Simon ini had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.
i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.
apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".

I don't know what is more sad the denial or the hatred. By the hatred I mean the wry smile i often note on the Witnesses face at the end of the conversation it's a smile that seems to say. "Watch out buster, Jehover has you marked for destruction at armaggedon"
Yes the saddest thing for me is that so many Witnesses can hate, promote hatred, and think they themselfes are loving people.

Advice on how to choose a book
by slimboyfat ini love books; i always have.
they are my life and my livelihood.
and many jehovah's witnesses, when they leave the religion, they think to themselves, "i'd like to read a book".

In my opinion, a good book is written by a person who respects their audience. I can usually tell within the first three pages if the writer likes me as a subject worthy of his book. If I feel he is writting to me and not his ego, it's a book worth reading.

Sail away, I love your reply, " I don't have any answers for you".
As for myself I obviously haven't gone as far as you with the Buddhist belief, but you very astutely spotted some of my questions were raised by my Buddhist learnings.
Anyway yesterday I met a couple of Mormons, and I see the witnesses by their trolley every weekend, occassionally the Hari Krishners are banging drums and singing " Hari Krishna"in the high-street. As for the Rebel, I won't get involved in any religion again, but " Sail Away" that doesn't mean I cant define MY 4 noble truths from Buddisam my way, which are:-
1. Life is suffering,
2. We all suffer,
3. We don't have to suffer.
4 . The end of suffering is accepting life and all it has to offer, good and bad.

Thanks for the reply " prologos" may I comment on your " I consider my views normal of course". That's my reason for the thread, growing up a witness we consider our " I am" the normal view, yet in my case I was 3 years behind most kids, understanding where babies came from, and only now do I realize how beautiful a woman looks in Sanitex rubber body stockings :-)
So my silly humor aside, we all want to be like Jesus and say " I am the truth the way and the life" but like Jesus to be able to say that where does that separation from being a baby and the becoming of " I am" start?
Actually I am not intellectual enough to answer these questions, so may I introduce James Joyce to the forum? He or She said these wonderful words:-
I am tiny tiny think
Ever flying to the spring,
Long ago I was a king
Now I do this kind of thing
On the wing, On the wing Bing.
I hope I resited the poem correctly? However I think what he/ she was saying in that poem, is that all of humanities problems, start from our inability to sit quietly in a room alone. Sitting in that room alone I have recently questioned and asked myself why does my " I am" feel it important others believe what I believe?

The Rebel ( A) Become a full fledged 100% happy apostate :-) . However i am still glad that attending the K,H and growing up being a full fledged witness in the 1980s, prevented me fron wasting so many years in front of the T.V screen wondering who killed J.R, on Dallas.

I was recently thinking before I became " Mike" I was an innocent baby, then as the days passed slowly by, I developed a sence of " iam". As the days moved slowly forward my body, equally slowly developed a "sex organ" whilst my mind took on a sence of " emotional" and " intellectual" I am" . This allowed me to become my current " I am"
Therefore I think it only fair the innocent child I was half a century past, be allowed to ask these questions:-
A) How much do i now know who " I am" ?
B) Is our biological sexual persuasion to be judged by other people's " I am?
C) How many of our political and religious believes are influenced by other people's " I am ?
Ok no longer a baby, I could write this thread usng words like psychoanalytic, or the phenomenological theory of subjectivity to explain my " I am",but I think that's " bottling" it. And I think my following questions are more challenging questions. Why? Because I am not asking that you explain your believes, be you athiest, agnostic or believer. My questions are more complicated :-
A ) Who are You?
B) Why do you believe as you do?
C) Why do you think it important other people believe what you believe?
